The Wisconsin State Fitasc is in the Books!
We want to thank everyone for the overwhelming support! This year the Main event was the largest State Fitasc attendance to date!
The new format with 200 targets this year seemed to be pretty popular for the Fitasc enthusiast.
Tyler Melloy and Nate Wannebo were the target setters for all events and did a fantastic job.We had a very tight race in the main event and 1 man topped them all for some excellent shooting.
Congratulations to Will Pick as our new Wisconsin State Fitasc Champion!!!Runner up and 3rd was decided in an exciting 25 target shoot-off Between Joe Dobson and Brad Peterson with Joe edging Brad out for 2nd. Joes target setting expertise helped him read those 60 yard targets on the shoot off! Great shooting Joe! and Great shooting Brad!
Out of state champion was decided in a shoot-off as well with an epic battle between John Marsh and Will Doble. John edged Will out by one target to claim the title.
Our lady Champion Goes to Jackie Walker who just won a fitasc event outright the week before at woods and meadows so she was all dialed in!
AA champion- Shawn Carlson
Shawn edged out Robin Engum by 1 target and shot some lights out parcoursA champion – Paula Benbow
Paula is an accomplished shooter who brought her experience to the table on the final day and edged out Holly Wright for the ChampionshipB class – Patrick Mclarnon
Patrick is a Wisconsin resident preparing for the 2024 World Fitasc as he represents Ireland next year. Nice win Patrick!C class- Former WSCA president Dick stewart shot excellent and edged out the local favorites….the Ellefsen boys. Great shooting Dick!
D class- Kevin Sorensen
All Kevin’s Experience in the sporting clays world paid off as he made the trek from the south to dominate D class and win the title! Great shooting Kevin!Again the entire G/U crew would like to thank everyone for their support and participation and we look forward to seeing everyone at the State shoot this year at J&H
Trophies for this event will be given out Saturday night at this years state shoot by the G/U Crew.

———————————————————————-———————————————-—-Game Unlimited 2023 WI State Fitasc Event 200 bird shot over 3 days.
103 participants total. 57 residents. 46 non-residents.Woods and Meadows 2022 WI State Fitasc Event 150 bird shot over 2 days.
77 participants total. 64 residents. 13 non- residents. The overall total gain for 2023 is 26 total shooters. The -7 loss of resident shooters is a result of a misguided format of the mandatory 3 days of 200 targets. The original format of 150 targets over two days is more popular for WI state residents. The resident numbers don’t lie.
I would estimate conservatively that at least a minimum of 20 shooters from WI skipped this event due to the mandatory burden of 3 dedicated days for 200 targets. While this is a boon for the individual club, it’s a step backwards for WI State Fitasc participants.
If you doubt it, try this same 200 bird mandatory format of Friday, Saturday, Sunday Main Event for the State Sporting clays championship. The participation will drop and the shooters and clubs will suffer.
The WI resident shooters should be the priority of the WSCA board members and it’s leadership.
I encourage all board members to seriously consider going back to a 2 day 150 bird WI State Fitasc championship. Or a 2 day 200 bird event. Also the rules at this years shoot were bent for a non-resident to do just that and shoot 200 birds over two days. That compromises the integrity of the event. Just plain wrong.
The resident target fees that support the WSCA are largely generated from residents.
Moving forward state shooters should be given priority and consideration for their annual resident participation. The prize money is pathetic and should be increased commensurate with shoot fees that continue to rise.
WI State Fitasc Championships should largely represent it’s residents.
Otherwise it’s just another event diminished by lack of resident participation.Sincerely,
Jeff Kosharek
